Experience New York's only total eclipse of the sun in our lifetimes. The next one is due in 2144.

Geneva, New York will lie in the path of totality for the April 8, 2024 eclipse, a thin line of lucky towns able to experience this mind-blowing scene.

In celebration of this amazing phenomena, we will be holding a three day long series of events, dubbed Embrace the Dark, from April 6-8th, culminating in the total eclipse of the sun at 3:21pm on Monday.

Embrace the Dark includes offerings all over the city, including wine tastings, downtown events, eclipse merchandise at retailers, local vendors, music and movies, astronomy art exhibits, historical and astronomical tours, lectures and events for kids.

LOCAL ECLIPSE NEWS:

A great big shout out to the Geneva BID, the hub for all of our Task Force meetings and all of our eclipse merchandise. Thanks for letting us turn you upside down for a while!

Thanks to the generosity of Geneva's own C.S. Burrall & Son insurance agency, every single child attending schools within the Geneva school district will receive free eclipse glasses to ensure a safe and memorable event.

The Geneva school district is cancelling school for April 8, 2024 to allow all children and staff to enjoy the moment.

Our efforts are made possible by our phenomenal local sponsors (shown below and on the Our Sponsors page) and an eclipse project grant from the American Astronomical Society through the National Science Foundation! Thanks to this exclusive grant, we will be printing informational booklets for the community and visitors, which will include information from this websites, maps of events and viewing sites, safety information and scientific articles. The task force will also be assisting in rehabilitating the Smith Observatory on Castle Street to enable it to be open for public tours after so many years, as well as creating an art exhibit to connect the arts with astronomy and earth science, displayed downtown and accessible to all.

The Solar Eclipse Task Force was started over a year ago to plan for the amazing experience coming to us on April 8th. Originally spawned from an eclipse presentation by Deb Ross of the Rochester Eclipse Task Force, I soon realized it was a massive amount of work for one person to take on. Now made up of several business owners, city officials and members of local non-profit organizations and educational facilities, we have met every month since to guide Geneva's approach towards planning for this massive natural event. This website was made possible due to the generosity of our local sponsors, allowing for free promotion of our local businesses and organizations.
